At the Eagle Tail Mountain Wolf Sanctuary. I pulled out my phone to take a picture of this guy here, but before I could take a picture, he ran up and decided to be my best friend. Fortunately somebody else had a camera. Such a sweet big scary wolf.

And some unrelated good news! I made it into the interview process for both the Senior CA position and the Teach for America Operations Coordinator position. And this evening, I'm going to an orientation meeting for Free Arts of Arizona so that I can learn about applying with them. Not only that, but I wrote an essay and turned it in a day before it was due. Productivity at its finest!

When Boredom Attacks

During training a group of us sit together and write sentence-by-sentence stories to spice things up a bit. These brilliant tales which I am sharing come from some especially boring and useless sessions. Enjoy... or don't enjoy (they are long and kind of weird).

Seven: The number Yvonnavich could not conquer. This was due to his irrational fears. Which can be attributed to his irrational parents. His parents locked him in a closet 20 hours a day. Sweaty, cold, and vengeful, this is where he plotted his return. He knew the first step was to find some minions. So some minions he did find. Yvonnavich, being a brilliant strategist, started with the local orphanage. He recruited 500 new orphans, but these orphans needed to be trained. And they had to be trained in secrecy so he needed a cover. On August 2nd, 1987 Yvonnavich purchased a warehouse on the lower east side; this is where he would spend the next year training his orphans. Yvonnavich knew brainwashing would be beautifully easy on the young identity-confused children. 499 orphans were successfully brainwashed, although there was one that was able to resist. This one, Mark Zuckerburg, escaped out the back and began running as fast as he could. He jumped a fence, two walls, and crossed a highway into safety. So he thought... Yvonnavich used his mind powers to blow Zuckerburg (kinda a douchebag) into 3,762 flesh bits. Next yvonnavich went back to his 499 orphans and planned his world domination. He then moved on the the next step and opened a franchise of Mrs. Fields bakery. From here his sinister work began, selling cookies to children. With his mass income from his venture, Yvonnavich finally was able to get that sex change he wanted; today you may know him as Mrs. Fields.

Troy Melendez. What an odd name for a beet root. But then again, this was no ordinary beet root, as these things rarely are. Troy Melendez was the most delicious beet root ever unearthed in the magical garden at ASU. His fruity nectar was considered a delicacy in almost every country. What a sad day it was when ASU found out the species of Troy Melendez. But little did they know, when they buried Tory Melendez, they would change the world forever. For Troy was a root, and upon burial he would begin to grow again; but this time into the most sinister of things, a zombie beet root. Now this zombie beet root wasn't like the zombie beet roots that you see in the movies. Troy was much worse and despicable; he would continually talk about "aggressive marketing" while slowly deteriorating the minds of his unwilling disciples. He built up the mentality of his minions by focusing on their strengths- with the sole purpose of taking over the mind! And the world wept. Before the people knew it, Troy had become an evil dictator, making strict regulations about things like success planning and facial hair designs. He capitalized on the facial hair design that looked somewhat like clogs on either side of his face tied together with a shoe string mustache. Some said he was the anti-carrot prophesized in the early times. Rumors surrounded Troy's rise to power, what had started as a one beet operation had become and army of millions. Even the great "Rhubarb Khan" and his army of billions of veggie platters began to feel the negative effects of Troy's clogs. "We're begging to feel the negative effects of Troy's clogs!" Rhubarb Khan exclaimed. To battle this imminent threat, the other vegetables united and began to invest in weapons of mass destruction. And the world wept again as plans were made to use these weapons. Lawn mower stocks went through the roof. Prayers for drought and erosion in the land of the enemy began. Farmer Joe Laughed as he continued to tend to his garden, wondering what would happen if his harmless vegetables came to life. He walked to the edge of the garden and looked upon his once-prized beet, Troy Melendez, but it was rotten now. Throwing it in the trash, the farmer made his way back into the house, the sun set and the farmer slept, dreaming of vegetable epics.

Once upon a time, there was a small teacup named Brandon. Brandon really didn't like tea. He like coke. He used it to escape from his past. When Brandon was little he was touched by his father. (This shit just got real), when Brandon was 14 he got his first tattoo, and 6 months after that he walk into a Starbucks, that's when this story begins. When Brandon walked into the Starbucks, he was VERY upset when he realized that the line was long and that he would have to wait 20 minutes for his drink. "Bitch, please," Brandon moaned as he wearily glanced at the endless line. Suddenly the fire alarm started to sound. Now he'd never get his caramel macchiato! Making his way through an army of pantsuits he punched man, woman, and child in the ovaries. He was going to get his drink. Then Brandon leaped over the counter and turned to confront the barista. In a fit of unadulterated rage, Brandon grabbed a nearby brick and raised it over his head about to smash the barista's skull to a pulp when he realized who it was! "Grandma? What are you doing here?" he asked. "Brandon!" She grabbed him by the throat. Brandon's jaw dropped in shock at the sigh of his grandmother while he also grasped for breath amidst the smoky air and his grandmother's death-clutch. Suddenly, Brandon's grandma released her grip on his neck and scooped up Brandon in the most loving and warm embrace Brandon had ever received. But it was only a trick. Grandma was actually using a maneuver that she had learned in ninja training. Ninja training for teacups. Ya, mother-fuckin' teacups. Grandma began to slither on the floor while dragging Brandon in the hopes of reaching the emergency exit. Suddenly she stopped, turned to Brandon, reached down and tore his handle off his body and began to stab him with shards of his own handle until he became unresponsive. There was a loud crash as some guy wearing a cape and underwear on the outside bust through the window. Brandon checked his own glass to make sure he was okay. At this point the acid was wearing off, the drug-fueled afternoon had ended, and the writer put down his pencil--horrified by his own creation.
-The last few pages of this story were found written on back of religious pamphlets and other scraps of paper.
Brandon didn't like religion as his dad was a Catholic priest, his obvious negative sentiment was justified.

sometimes when the sun peeks over the horizon line an a gentle warmness washes over the morning landscape, you can catch a glimpse of "them." they are the outsiders - not accepted in our society. they are purple, eat egg juice for every eal, and have a strange fascination with desert plants. if they were smurfs, they'd be the smurfs with the prison shanks, the ones with death sentences for homicidal rage sprees.

this is the story of one of "them" who was daring enough to challenge the limits set upon him. one dark day an army of ninja grandmas began to shuffle their way towards the land of "them." however, they all had cardiac arrests and no AED was in sight (YAY OSHA TRAINING ;] ). one by one these veteran ninjas each experienced an impending sense of doom and began to topple over. then, one of "them" named Magic Johnson happened to be walking by with his newly purchased AED and thought that he could help. although the grandma ninjas were sworn enemies of "them," Magic Johnson felt a tugging in his cauliflower heart. Magic Johnson approached the first grandmother ninja when he noticd that she was wearing a wig! it turned out that it was actually an army of ninja grandpas with heavy chests! now what can he do?! even more hated than the ninja grandmas were the ninja cross-dressing grandpas and magic pulled out his glock and blew away each helpless, dying old man.

suddenly, a bright light shone from the heavens and Magic lifted his hands to shield his eyes. the ESPN announcer began to speak.

"And there you go folks, live from ESPNX, he became victoirious in the 2037 olympic battle!" agic began to jump up and down in victory while clicking his heels and then he eagerly ran up the podium to receive his mdeal. silly Magic. they stopped awarding olympic medals in 2018. drenched in shame, Magic unsheathed his katana of dishonor and prepared to perform the killing blow. ESPN quickly went on a commercial break while the Chinese military was called to deal with this international crisis.

"did you know that you can get a new couch for only $799 with no down payment or interest for 2 full months?" meanwhile, agic had no intentions to kill himself. the podium was closest to the Blagornian Duke and katana-at-hand, Magic leaped to the balcony. Magic utilized his samurai training to maneuver through all of the bodyguards until he was face-to-face with the duke. now, he could finally get the answer to his long sought after question. he asked sternly, "what is the meaning of life?" the blagornian duke spit in magic's face.

he then laughed like an evil genius, ripped off his face, and revealed himself to actually be inhye - codename godzirra. she then proceeded to attack Magic. Magic stood back in shock as he realized this was INHYE - his high school sweetheart. he then said, "are your feet tired? you've been running through my head all day." inhye was not impressed and sliced off Magic's feet in his enamored state. Magic began to burst into tears when he realized he would never fight ninja grandmas...or grandpas...teh same way again. instead, he would get a hook and be even more ass-kickingly awesome.

BUT! - because he was one of "them" Magic was not killed so easily and he placed his head back in place - ready to face his enemy. nearly headless Magic Johnson was about to do a sweet roundhouse kick when his hook got caught on some lady's purse. drenched in shame, nearly-headless Magic prepared his katana of dishonor.

Yesterday I had my hip hop final. I was super nervous and wasn't really happy with the dance, but when we got out there to perform, I had a blast. This is my crew. The two older women in the back are awesome. They are sisters who work at ASU and randomly take different classes each semester. The teacher calls the one on the left Mama J. They took video of our dance, so hopefully I can get a copy of it.

Then on Sunday Milica and I managed to weasel our way into a free trip to Arcosanti for the art and design students. Arcosanti is really cool. It's an experimental community. The plan is that it will hold 5,000 people, but it is currently less than 5% finished.

After the tour we were given free range to explore and chill, so Milica and I took advantage of the artistic inspiration.

Last Friday I went to the Campus Kiva concert. Not only did I get sucked into selling tickets, but I also ended up being one of the photographers. Bryan, the guy running the show, is the most persuasive person ever. The two guys here are on my staff this year. The one on the right is actually one of the first people I met when I came to college. The show was really entertaining. It was a little awkward when Milica and I couldn't find the correct room before the show started and accidentally walked in a sat down in a room entirely full of Indian men not speaking English. We ran out of there pretty quick.

The best and worst weekend ever.

Wednesday: Did CA interviews. Had to awkwardly interview my friend because nobody else could help out at that time. Stayed up till 4 in the morning writing a paper. Fire alarm went off in my building until 5:30 in the morning. Went to bed at 6:45 in the morning.

Thursday: On duty.

Friday: Had lunch with old professor. Helped out with CA interviews again. Everyone did a terrible job, and I hope I don't have to work with these people. Went to dinner at Katie Tornabene's house. Got back way later than was supposed to.

Saturday: Badly run AIESEC meeting in the morning. Considering running for a leadership position only to stop the nonsense. Thrown in a dunk tank for half an hour. Write paper. Throw Tyler in a dunk tank for half an hour. Have dinner with Dan and Travis. Give Blood. Write paper.

Sunday: Supposed to have a baby shower for Alex, but get text message at 4 in the morning that she had her baby. Write paper. Confront a group of obviously drunk, belligerent douchebags. Celebrate birthday instead of baby shower. Visit Alex and Pete in the hospital. Driver in parking lot locked keys in car. Get back and talk to friend/resident that got into a car accident.

Now I'm all shaky. Partly from getting emotional about Alex and Pete and amazing CAs who have stepped up to take care of each other and other friend. And partly from the really strong coffee that Milica made (Eastern Europeans sure know their coffee). At 8 tonight have floor meeting. After that have program. Need to finish paper by tomorrow morning because otherwise Eric and Adam with glue googly eyes to my pants and tickle me to death (there's nothing like having weird friends to motivate you). Just freaked out because I forgot that I'm planning Chinese class dinner (which I won't even be able to attend).

Monday: Everything important ever due in Research Methods class. Have no idea when anything is due in Chinese. Wish department and professor could get shit together one of these days.

Tuesday: Have to take some ridiculous unimportant test in Chinese to measure the department. Urban Planning final right after. Going to professor's office hours to argue with professor about unfair essay grades and imaginary grammar rules. CA Banquet.

This feels like the longest weekend ever.

So I replaced my glasses. They're kind of like my old ones, but with a little more attitude... and some pink flowers on the sides. Also, I have my sweatshirt zipped up all the way because I didn't know I would be working the desk and forgot my staff shirt. The other thing I learned today is that beer goggles make everything go left, and human foosball is the best game ever. And yesterday I got to play an intramural softball game. I hit a monster of a hit, but it ended up being a dead ball, so AFTER hustling it all the way home and embarrassing myself, I had to go back to second. But if that golf cart hadn't been in the way, it would have been the best hit of my life.

Trip to Sedona

We had an AIESEC retreat in Sedona this weekend.

Our trip started out at a lovely little diner.

With such classy decor.

Then a group of us went hiking.

It was a small group. Everyone else went on a much easier hike. got food, and lazed around. Erika, Jesus, Marigona, John, and the two guys from Germany whose names I have forgotten. The whole time the German guys seemed annoyed to be stuck with a bunch of annoying Americans so it was pretty funny.

I am singing very quietly and out of tune in both of these, and also I forgot the words. The blond girl in the black shirt and shorts next to me in both of them is my friend Katie who is also a CA in Barrett. The tall guitar playing guy in the awkward red sweater is our TA for the class.

Some of the other CAs put on a paint fighting program to celebrate the Hindu holiday of Holi (even though Holi happened a while ago). After someone pointed out that the paint on my eye looked like makeup, I took a model-ish picture and then edited the photo to make the colors pop. I like how it turned out. Although I don't think Tyra would be impressed.

After my bosses came by and told me, I was pretty angry. It wasn't actually their fault/decision, but I didn't want to deal with them. Of course they saw me at dinner and I was obligated to sit with them. They could tell I was kind of angry though. They asked me not to punch them, but if I really needed to punch them, not to punch Sean Ryan's hair because he has the best hair flip ever. Haha... this job is ridiculous sometimes.

We had a girls night out which consisted of watching some mediocre chick flick and eating the most delicious frozen yogurt in the history of the world. Next to me is Meghan, Lidia, Katie Tollefson (my wonderful Chinese amiga), Karissa (our goal for the semester is to make the angry sandwich lady in the dining hall smile), Milica (we went on an ice skating adventure together), and Jenna.

Tonight was our end of the semester Chinese class dinner. Another guy in the class was giving Katie and me a ride, so we were just standing on the side of the road waiting for him. We were joking about making proposals to him like we were working the street, but we decided against it. He's one of the more quiet guys in class, and we didn't want to make him feel awkward. We finally see him driving towards us. He pulls up, rolls down his window, and just screams at us, "How much???"

... It's always the quiet ones.

I have decided that the library basement is officially the BEST THING EVER! Not only does it have all of the Asian language books, but the majority of the brilliant ASU population doesn't know it exists; thus, Dorothy has a lovely quiet, roomy desk with an outlet for her laptop while those poor suckers upstairs are climbing all over themselves to find a place to work. While we were on the mountain, we were watching the planes fly over us. It was pretty cool.

Somehow I ended up getting roped into working the desk on Halloween. That doesn't mean I didn't have any fun...

And some thoughts for the day...

1. You guys may make fun of me for hanging around so many gay guys, but they are wonderful people. When it comes to straight guys, I attract the creepers. After looking at the previous picture I could understand why I attract the creepers, but I don't understand why I can't find non-creepy guys with a sense of humor.

2. I mentioned the Peace Corps in a Chinese essay, and my professor invited me to talk to her because she worked for Peace Corps China for many years. I'm really excited about this, but neither her English nor my Chinese are good enough for this to be a successful conversation.

3. A large number of people are celebrating No Shave November. Things are going to get harry. Last year Taylor apparently decided that No Shave November wasn't enough. He also celebrated Don't Shave December and Just a Little Longer January.

4. I decided that I need to make some changes in my life. I don't have enough fun these days. I'm starting out with slowly taking on less responsibility in AIESEC till I can leave without dumping my responsibility on someone else too much, and next semester I'm going to take classes that I enjoy rather than trying to compete with these other students. I don't work as fast as some other people and cannot handle 3 majors. I'd like to be well off, but making money is not the primary goal in my life, nor do I find it interesting. I shouldn't try so hard to do things that will "make me a better person" because what I'm learning from this is that I'm good the way I am, and that it takes all kinds. I also want to make a greater effort to go to the gym because it's so important to me, but I've been leaving me behind.

5. I decided that even though it's frustrating at times and sucks up a large portion of my life, I would like to return as a C.A. I'm finding that I really enjoy it. And some of the more frustrating things about the job have gone away; some of the barriers that existed between me and the other residents aren't there anymore. Being a C.A. again next year probably will be harder though; apparently the good kids got disproportionately placed on my floor. The other day, all I had to do was look at one of my residents and walk past their room, and they turned down their music. And instead of having people tear down my stuff, when my stuff fell down by itself, my residents helped me put it back up. Anyways, my bosses say I'm doing a good job and that my chances of being chosen to return to Barrett are very good.

6. I still don't know what I'm going to sign up for on Monday. I took a placement test for German, and it said I should be in 201. The problem is that taking 201 in the Spring would put me at an off year. I'm debating on signing up for 202 and then studying over winter break. I think I could do it because when I just got out of high school, it placed me in 311.

7. I have had the Miley Cyrus song Party in the USA stuck in my head for a week.

8. I'm glad I survived hell week, but I'm learning that the rest of the semester is going to be hell week. I might have to back out of one of my honors contracts and do it later.

9. I'm looking forward to going home. When I'm in the city I miss the rural life, and when I'm in the rural, I miss the city.

AIESEC Conference

If someone loses their stuff, they get punished during the conference. In this punishment, the conference chair told them that they had to pretend to drive a car and then told everyone else that they had to pretend that they were on the toilet. Just think about it.

Wednesday morning was a bad morning. The fire alarm went off at 4am. After we were allowed back in I finished my Chinese homework. When the sun came up, I noticed that there was a helicopter hovering over the dorms. It was there for quite a while, and I never figured out why. Then I ended up sleeping through lunch so I was starving by the time I got to class. In class we talked about the "Tempe pizza market." To me it sounded like, "meh meh meh meh PIZZA meh meh meh meh PEPPERONI meh meh meh INCREASE IN PIZZAS meh meh meh meh."

This is called "The Great Hall." Atleast that's what we're trying to convince the Vice Dean (who happens to look like Professor McGonagall). We're also planning to have a house cup. The one annoying thing is nobody gets cell reception in these buildings... we probably won't be able to apparate either. One girl wants to call the non-honors students living in the community "muggles."

Rock Star Day. I had to get up in front of a gazillion people to model my sweet red pants and my big hair.

In other news....

We had to do skits which meant that I danced in front of a gazillion people. I was pretty proud of myself.

Also today we did scenarios. I'm less proud of myself for that. I ended up getting the suicidal scenario with Adam and Tyler acting as the students. Even as a scenario it was scary. I was about ready to cry, and then they made fun of me for it later. I'm glad training is finally getting more helpful though. And I'm glad that those bastards are actually on my side and will be helping me in situations rather than yelling at me.

I also met a CA from Carson City. That was kind of cool.

The pro staff in some of the other staffs are kind of crazy. For Rock Star day today one guy dressed up as Lady Gaga and another guy dressed up as Amy Winehouse. It was very hard to take anything seriously this morning.

Today I dragged Dan to the Chinese Cultural Center. It was mostly just Chinese stores and restaurants, but there was also a garden and some sweet architecture.

AIESEC Regional Kickoff Seminar, otherwise known as RoKS. I got to learn a lot about the organization, the committees, networking, and how to do an internship abroad. I also learned some sweet dances and made some new friends.

After the seminars, we had a RoKStar party. That's Krista and Heather. They both go to ASU and are in the honors college. I knew Heather from before. Krista shows horses and is on the ASU equestrian team.
I think I did my rock-on sign backwards...

This is my new friend from the San Jose AIESEC chapter. I want to call him Rianto, but I think I might have butchered his name. He gave me a piece of paper with his name on it, but it's in an envelope that I don't have yet. He's a chemical engineering major and he's from Jakarta, Indonesia. I got to meet a lot of other cool people too. There was a girl from Korea, some Malaysians, some Chinese people, a British guy, and a Scottish guy, and a lot of other people.

So we did the Barrett Light Rail scavenger hunt yesterday, and we went as a box of crayons. Probably the most epic day ever.

One of the things we had to do was find flags throughout the day (and go to an IHOP). Apparently there was a store called Flag World. We missed it. And so we missed a lot of points.

We also had to find the Yeti. As we were making our way around, the Yeti rode past us in a trolley taunting us. The result: A bunch of crayons running down the sidewalk through a bunch of people yelling, "Stop that Yeti!" Yeah. That turned out grreeaat. For the rest of the night after that we didn't get anything done because we kept trying to track down the Yeti. He ended up passing us several more times. Right before we got to the location where the trolley stops, the Yeti got off. We never found him... but atleast he agreed to pose in a picture with us symbolizing our adventure.

Student Power!

I attended a rally to protest the enormous education budget cuts. It included college students from all ASU campuses, U of A students, and NAU students. Even some teachers attended even though they weren't supposed to. Here we are marching towards the capital museum.

We decided to have a girls night. Sometimes it is nice to escape from the sports, video games, and crude jokes in order to spend time doing girly things and being pretty. The nice thing about the dorms is that you can have a slumber party and still go to sleep in your own bed. Lidia did all the make up.

Halloween costume. The 80's theme wasn't too bad. I think from this picture, however, that I subconsciously wanted to be a Superhero.

Travis the tourist and Dan the Wiseman. Travis acted like a lost tourist for the entire night, and there were people who were actually ready to give him directions. I don't know how to describe it, but I wish you could have seen it. Amazing. Dan was wearing Travis's bed sheets. It became really awkward for him, however, when there were crazy religious people everywhere.

Kara didn't have a costume, so she wore her lab coat. Then we got her some green Playdough, and she became Robin Williams in Flubber.

Kelsey (C.A.) decorated our hall with spiderwebs. It was cool until I walked into one.

This is when I went with Cora to drop off her brother at her dad's. Her father's cabin was not finished, but it had a great view. Hooray for nature! I have yet to get a picture of Cora.

This picture doesn't accurately represent Kara and I very well. We look too friendly. I need to get a picture of us in which we are either arguing or making fun of eachother.

Dave and I were looking at the cups from a previous picture upside down. I like this one; it's rather artistic.
